Is AI Search Likely to Become a Widespread Feature on Entertainment Sites?

AI search is all the rage online now, with new data showing that Google’s AI search is becoming the default option for many users. It’s certainly changing the way people discover information, but will it have an impact on how they find entertainment as well?

According to recent reports, some of the leading entertainment sites, including Netflix, are already exploring the possibility of using AI search to help people find what’s right for them. There’s a chance that this could catch on, but there may be some offshoots of entertainment that don’t need to rely on it as much.

Would AI Search Alleviate Decision Fatigue?

It may seem hard to believe, but streaming platforms now offer so much choice that some viewers find it hard to settle on anything. It’s a phenomenon known as decision fatigue, and it often leads viewers to end up deciding to watch nothing at all.

AI search could be useful in these situations, as users may be able to start a chat with an agent instead of browsing through lengthy lists of series and films. They could tell it how they are feeling, and the AI could delve deeper by asking follow-up questions. Combined with knowing the viewer’s history, it could then tailor its suggestions to make them relevant for the individual user at that particular time.

This poses an interesting question for streaming platforms’ content teams and marketers when they publish content. It may mean that they need to use clear descriptions and language that reflect the types of searches audiences are likely to make.

Is AI Search Needed at All Entertainment Sites?

While there is an obvious benefit to integrating AI on sites where decision fatigue has become a problem, it may not be necessary in all offshoots of entertainment.

For example, the online casino industry has a solid model in place to help people find the games they want to play, and it may not make sense to shake this up. Everything is arranged into separate categories. This means players can find Slingo games like Slingo 49s and Hop It Slingo in the same place, live casino titles such as Roulette Live and London Blackjack grouped together, and slot games divided up in user-friendly categories like Classic and Fishing.

Could AI Search Change How Websites Are Designed?

If AI search becomes more common, it could change the way websites are designed. Instead of having lists of thumbnails to choose from, users may be faced with a chat box on the homepage instead. This could be shown first, but users may then have the chance to browse manually if they wish to do so.

Entertainment sites may also choose to go in different directions with how they implement AI initially. It could be the next battleground for streaming services, where numerous ideas are put forth and eventually one reigns supreme.

With AI search becoming more widespread online, entertainment sites may increasingly explore how to integrate it. For some, it could be useful. For others, it may not be quite as necessary.
